About JS Apiaries - Est 2018 - New Houghton, Mansfield

A little background

JS Apiaries started in 2018 in the small village of New Houghton, on the edge of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

I got into beekeeping for a simple reason - hayfever. I suffer badly, and I'd read that local, raw honey can help with symptoms. So I got a hive to produce my own.

As soon as I opened my first colony, I was hooked. The complexity, the organisation, the temperament - I was fascinated. What started as a jar of honey for hayfever quickly became an obsession.

Since 2018 the apiary has grown slowly and sustainably to a small number of production colonies. In 2026 I started raising my own queens - genuine F1s bred from imported Buckfast breeder queens from Denmark. That gives us the calm temperament, low swarming tendency and strong honey gathering that Buckfast are famous for, while being properly overwintered in the UK.

Everything here is done small-scale and properly:

• Raw honey - cold extracted in our honey room, coarse filtered for wax, never heated or pasteurised. Hive to jar. • Overwintered Nucs - 6 National frames, headed by a 2026 white marked & clipped F1 Danish Buckfast queen. Locally overwintered, not an imported spring split. Collection only from New Houghton, NG19. • Small batch - when it's gone, it's gone. We don't buy in honey or bees.

We're based in New Houghton, Mansfield NG19. Honey can be collected by arrangement, posted via Royal Mail, or local delivery by request. Nucs are collection only by appointment April/May - bees transferred into your own box.

All colonies are visually inspected and showing no signs of notifiable brood disease at time of sale.

If you have hayfever and want to try raw local honey, or you're looking for a steady, productive overwintered nuc for 2027, get in touch.
